Wake Up and Smell the Distraction

Have you ever had a day when you wanted to do something and you just couldn’t bring yourself to do it? Distractions to the left and food to the right. It all adds up to a situation where you really can’t function at all.

I love naps, don’t you?
I can’t possibly be the first person to experience this problem, but sometimes I feel that way—as if I’m the only one who has ever gone through this kind of frustration. When I set out to write a blog or work on a manuscript, something always happens that I’d not anticipated. I think about my house, which is messy, and I have no motivation to clean it. The fridge is empty, but I have no desire to go get groceries. So what do I do? I take a nap.

I love to write, but when I sit down to write, all these different things are calling to me—things I really don’t even want to do. (That’s the sad part.)

Well, if this has happened to you, obviously, you’re not alone. There are probably millions out there just like you and me. Do you have something that, if you only get started, you can find the strength to keep going? I find that reading some of what I’ve already written sometimes gives me the kick in the pants I need to get back to writing.

It also keeps me from having to do the dishes or the laundry. (I so want an evil smiley face right here!)

It’s hard to stay motivated, sometimes, isn’t it? I wish there was an energy drink that could help me clean the house or COMPLETE THE LAUNDRY (washed, folded, and put away—novel concept). Then I’d be like Hamilton, the squirrel, from the movie Over the Hedge. I don’t know if my family could handle me on energy drinks.

So, I’ll keep puttering along, whether it’s laundry, dishes, folding towels, going to work every morning, or even writing a blog or working on a manuscript. We are all trying to keep our heads above water. Remember—in the end, it’s not about the spotless house or the completed laundry. It’s about the race that is well run.

“I have fought the fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

How is your race going?

God bless and keep you all till you cross the finish line.
